Some are born puppet makers, some achieve puppet making, and some have puppet making thrust upon them.

I am of the latter.

Running shows and creating platforms for the sharing and enjoying of art (especially theatre) can present some daunting challenges.

The natural instinct is to tiptoe around some, and bring others to a halt as your try and puzzle your way through problems. But this lovely instinct sometimes invites our dear, old friend procrastination, who will launch himself on any project nearby like an infectious disease.

This is what happened to me as I faced my puppet, still unfinished as I write, needed for a particular project.

I have spoken about finishing it for well over nine months, and the labour still isn't over.

But I must still trudge on!

Why, I ask, does the faintest breath of interest blow that which must be done from pedestal of priority. How can beauty, pleasure and entertainment increase to such a disfigured proportion in light of this minuscule burden before my eyes.

I believe that what hinders us most when it comes to achieving the big or small things we want is firstly the fear of not knowing where to begin, and secondly the fear of not knowing how it will end.

Alas, through the ages many a remedy has been proclaimed. Much wise counsel has professed a cure. From every age, soothsayer and wizard some solution has been extolled.

But the truth is in cusp of our hands, we alone know the secret :

STOP READING THIS AND DO IT!

Now as I attend to my puppet and you attend to you know what, let us take to heart that when making puppets, great or small, take it bit by bit and you'll get through it all.

(I would think twice before I take that advice. The puppet is still half done. Woe to the vice)
