World Theatre Day 2021.

On this day in history, Stick and Stone had their first ever performance on a stage. How fitting! We had had quite a few performances in our repertoire already, but this was the foretaste of what was yet to come!

Graciously we were offered a slot in the World Theatre Day event hosted by the Savoy Theatre, Port Elizabeth (our hometown).

We performed Act 1 – WOO – from our Shakespeare Unleashed production to a small but grateful and receptive audience. As we always say – quality, it is all about the quality, the details, the exchange and enjoyment between us and our audience.

Our props looked fabulous on a stage. And for the performance we had our very first item bought by the company, a glorious HATSTAND – the third and extremely important member of our theatre company. Alongside this our costumes outshined everything as always.

Our crew were incredible and consisted of the best and finest (well we think so).

There was our trusty backstage dresser. We throw garments on and off at lightning as we change between characters in mid swing. We are, after all, a two-woman show performing about 15 different characters EACH. Oh sorry, a three-person show (including Mr hat stand). So you can imagine why someone keeping things together in the back is important.

Along with this, two young, up and coming photographers handling the live videos and pictures. One strong handlanger, (Afrikaans word for a strong and useful personage who lifts and carries and does, you know, the important jobs), to move the heavy items like pianos and suchlike, as well as online media person in tow. This entourage was perfect and kept us performers together like glue.

Every opportunity to perform is a gift and this day is one that just kept giving.

Thank you to all the souls that made it possible!
